Highly efficient and environmentally friendly foam control agent for concrete plasticizers

06/21/2006

TEGO® Antifoam 2-57

Degussa’s business line Goldschmidt Industrial Specialties has developed a new foam control agent: TEGO® Antifoam 2-57 is specially designed to help control foam problems in the manufacturing and handling processes of concrete plasticizers and concrete.

Based on an aqueous emulsion of organomodified siloxanes, it is a very efficient and compatible defoamer for aqueous concrete and mortar plasticizers based on lignin sulfonates, naphthalene- and melamine sulfonates. It can be added to avoid foam problems during production and handling of the plasticizer e.g. during dosaging and to prevent foam formation during the processing of concrete and mortar.

TEGO® Antifoam 2-57 may be applied both as pre-defoamer in the plasticizer concentrates and as post-defoamer for the ready to use plasticizers. It combines outstanding performance with environmental friendliness. Some of the major benefits are:
  • Very efficient in reducing the air content of mortar and concrete and additionally improves the flowability of mortar and concrete mixtures.
  • Solvent free, non-hazardous and non-water pollutant.
  • Exhibits excellent compatibility with PVC and rubber parts e.g. gaskets or hoses.
  • Easy to handle by gentle stirring at room temperature.
  • In general required dosage is lower than with current commercial defoamers.

  • TEGO® Antifoam 2-57 is listed on the chemical inventories of Europe (EINECS), U.S.A. (TSCA), Canada (DSL), Japan (ENCS), Australia (AICS), Korea (ECL), Philippines (PICCS) and the People’s Republic of China.

Available in 30 kg and 210 kg plastic drums as well as in 1000 kg containers, TEGO® Antifoam 2-57 can be stored as delivered in closed drums for at least 6 months.

Concrete plasticizers are used to reduce the water consumption in concrete as well as to improve its workability, mechanical strength and durability. However, they lead to uncontrolled incorporation of air into the concrete due to their surfactant properties. Therefore, plasticizers are generally used in combination with defoamers.
