TEGOPREN® 5825 – A New Defoamer Booster
10/31/2006
Degussa’s business line Goldschmidt Industrial Specialties has developed a new, highly efficient defoamer booster for the Americas Market.
TEGOPREN® 5825 is an additive to pulp defoamer formulations for both concentrates and emulsions based on mineral oils and silicone oils. It improves the performance of defoamers in hardwood and softwood black liquor. It is an effective dispersing agent for defoaming formulations. TEGOPREN® 5825 can efficiently replace inert organic emulsifiers in O/W, W/O and silicone in water defoamer emulsions. Incorporated into defoamers, the additive provides faster initial knock-down and improved hold-down times.
The product is liquid, easy to handle and soluble in water. With the health rating = 1 and a high flash point (> 200˚C), it complies to the safety requirements of pulp and paper mills. Pulp mills using defoamers containing TEGOPREN® 5825 benefit of reduced pitch problems and increased pulp washing performance, as well as of the resulting energy and water cost savings.
TEGOPREN® 5825 conforms to 21 CFR 176.210 – Defoaming agents used in the manufacture of paper and paperboard.
TEGOPREN® 5825 is listed on the chemical inventories of U.S.A. (TSCA), Europe (EINECS), Canada (DSL), Australia (AICS), Japan (ENCS), ECL (Korea) Philippines (PICCS) and the People’s Republic of China.
Available in 200 kg (55 gal) drums and 1000 kg containers from our Hopewell, VA production plant, it can be stored in original sealed containers at room temperatures for 12 months.
